
Nothing sassy about these super tasty Saucy Meatballs with a unique ingredient, grape jelly. A great appetizer for your next gathering.
Makes approximately 80-100 meatballs.
Ingredients:
For the meatballs:
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon horseradish
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1
- 750 g lean ground beef
- 250 g lean ground pork
- 1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs
For the sauce:
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup grape jelly
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup chili sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
Instructions:
For the meatballs:
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, horseradish salt and pepper.
- Crumble the beef and pork into the egg mixture.
- Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over and blend all together with a fork or your hands. Do not overmix. Form the meat mixture into 1 inch balls and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Leave a little space between each ball.
- Bake in the preheated 350°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until browned, turning them over halfway through the baking time.
For the sauce:
- Add all the sauce ingredients into a large skillet with high sides or a large pot. Stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce the heat and let simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked meatballs and mix with the sauce. If meatballs were left to cool, heat them for a few minutes in the sauce.
- Serve as an appetizer or as a meal over cooked rice.
